At Kalamunda Secondary ESC we run an extensive and gradual transition program that allow year 6s to settle in and have a sense of belonging in our school before starting year 7. This makes the summer break at home far less stressful for both students and parents.
We run six transition sessions in total starting in Term 2:
Week 4 – 9 am – 11 am – a school tour with a fun scavenger hunt
Week 9 – 9 am – 11 am – ‘Getting to know you’ games and activities
Week 4 – 9 am – 12 pm – Cooking and classroom activities
Week 9 – 9 am – 12 pm – Classroom activities, Sport with Mr Mansfield
Week 4 – 9 am – 2 pm – Classroom activities, Quiz with Mr Crawley
Week 9 – 9 am – 2 pm – Gardening, Woodwork, Sausage Sizzle
Year 10 to 12 at Kalamunda Secondary ESC is a time to encourage and develop independence, develop functional literacy and numeracy skills and explore options for post school pathways, while developing work readiness and practical on-the-job training.
We work collaboratively with students, parents and therapists and document Individualised Transition Plans (ITPs) starting in Year 10. These are working documents that are flexible and allow for changes in direction to meet the needs of each student. This allows parents to initiate assessments and make any adjustments needed for required NDIS funding.
